Athens
Athens is the capital of Greece. It is a big, busy city by the sea. Athens is one of the oldest cities in the world, with a history over 3,400 years old!
People say Athens was named after Athena, the goddess of wisdom. Long ago, Athens was very important for art, learning, and a way of sharing power called democracy. Today, Athens is full of life. It has many old buildings, like the famous Parthenon, and many museums to explore.
Athens is also where the first modern Olympic Games were held in 1896. The city hosted the Games again in 2004. People from all over the world visit Athens to see its history and enjoy its parks and shops.
The city has many hills and mountains around it. One tall hill, Lycabettus, gives great views of the whole city. Athens is a place where old history meets new life every day.
