The Blue Ridge Mountains

The Blue Ridge Mountains are a beautiful group of mountains in the eastern part of the United States. They stretch for about 550 miles from Pennsylvania down to Georgia. From far away, these mountains often look blue, which is why they are called the Blue Ridge.

The blue color comes from the trees. They release a special substance called isoprene into the air. This makes a soft, hazy blue look over the mountains. Isn’t that cool?

Two big parks are in the Blue Ridge Mountains: Shenandoah National Park and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. These parks are full of forests, rivers, and trails for people to explore. The Blue Ridge Parkway is a famous road that connects these parks. It offers wonderful views of the mountains all year round.

Many animals live in these mountains, like American black bears, deer, and many kinds of birds. The forests are home to tall trees and lots of plants. People love to visit the Blue Ridge Mountains for hiking, camping, and just enjoying the pretty scenery.
