Boat
Adapted from Wikipedia · Explorer experience
A boat is a fun kind of watercraft that comes in many shapes and sizes. Boats are usually smaller than a ship. People use boats for many different things.
Boats can be found on rivers, lakes, or near the coast. Some boats, like whaleboats, are made to travel far out at sea. People enjoy boating for fun, using boats such as sailboats, pontoon boats, and fishing boats. Some people even live on special boats called houseboats.
Boats can move in many ways. Some are moved by people using their hands, like rowboats and paddle boats. Others use the wind, such as sailboats. Many modern boats have engines. These engines can be built into the boat or attached to the back. Boats have been used for a very long time. The earliest boats were simple rafts made from logs or bundles of reeds. Over time, people learned to build boats by joining wooden planks together.
Boats are important because they help people travel long distances. They can carry people and things across water. The front of a boat is called the bow, and the back is called the stern. When you face forward, the right side is the starboard and the left side is the port. Boats float because their shape keeps water out. This helps them stay on top of the water.
