Brooklyn Academy of Music

The Brooklyn Academy of Music, or BAM, is a wonderful place in Brooklyn, New York City. Here, you can watch plays, see dancing, listen to music, enjoy operas, or watch movies. It is a special spot where many kinds of art come together.

BAM started a long time ago, in 1859. Its first show was in 1861. The main building we see today opened in 1908 in an area called Fort Greene, Brooklyn. It is a special group helped by people who want it to stay open and strong. This kind of group is called a not-for-profit corporation with a special help called 501(c)(3) status.

Many famous artists have performed at BAM, like Philip Glass and Trisha Brown. People love to see new and exciting shows here, including theater, dance, music, opera, and films. BAM has several buildings where these shows happen, making it a lively place for everyone to enjoy.
