Who Was Cai Lun?

Cai Lun was a special helper in the Eastern Han dynasty in China. He lived a long time ago and did very important work.

Making Paper Better

Cai Lun helped make paper much better. Before his time, people used bamboo and wooden slips to write on. Cai Lun used new things like tree bark, hemp, old cloth, and even fishnets to make paper. This made paper easier for everyone to use.

Why We Remember Him

Because of Cai Lun’s clever ideas, paper became easier to make and use. This helped people share ideas and write down stories. In China, he is remembered as a hero who helped change the world with paper. His hometown, Leiyang, is still famous for making paper today.
