The Cenozoic Era
The Cenozoic Era is the time we live in now. It started about 66 million years ago. This era is called the Age of Mammals because mammals became the most common animals on land. Many different kinds of mammals lived all over the world.
Birds also became very successful during this time. They flew in the skies and lived in many places. The Cenozoic had some very interesting animals, like early whales, big snakes, and early relatives of humans.
The Cenozoic saw big changes in Earth's climate. At first, it was very warm, but later it became cooler. This cooling helped ice build up on Antarctica. The continents also moved to the places we see today. Australia-New Guinea drifted north, and India crashed into Asia, making the tall Himalayas mountains.
Scientists divide the Cenozoic into three main parts: the Paleogene, Neogene, and Quaternary. These parts help us understand the many changes that happened during this time. The Cenozoic is important because it is the era when mammals, birds, and many plants grew and changed a lot.
