The Constellation Cepheus
Cepheus is a beautiful group of stars in the night sky. It is named after a king from old stories called Greek mythology. People have been watching Cepheus for a very long time. The famous scientist Ptolemy wrote about it a long, long time ago, and we still see it today.
The brightest star in Cepheus is called Alderamin or Alpha Cephei. It shines very brightly in the sky. Another special star is Delta Cephei. This star changes its brightness, and it helped scientists learn about stars that change size and shine differently.
In the stories, Cepheus was the king of Aethiopia. He was married to Cassiopeia, and they had a daughter named Andromeda. If you look up at the night sky, you can sometimes see pictures of these three as star groups, or constellations.
Cepheus has many interesting stars and places. Some stars are very big, much bigger than our Sun. There are also special areas where new stars are being born. One of these places is called the Cave Nebula. It looks like a soft, cloudy shape in the sky.
People love to look at Cepheus because it tells us stories from long ago and shows us the wonderful night sky full of stars.
