Christine Anu

Christine Anu is a talented Australian singer and actress. She comes from the Torres Strait Islander community, which is a special group of people from islands north of Australia.

Christine became well-known in 1995 when she sang a beautiful cover song of the Warumpi Band’s "My Island Home". Her voice touched many hearts, and people loved to hear her sing.

She has won many awards for her music, including several ARIA Awards. In August 2024, she shared a new album and single called Waku: Minaral a Minalay.

Before she became a famous singer, Christine started her career as a dancer. She has also worked in film, on stage including musical theatre, and on television. She even hosted a radio show called Weekend Evenings on ABC Radio.

Christine was born on 15 March 1970 in Cairns, Queensland. She grew up with her Torres Strait Islander mother and stepfather. Her stepfather was a singer from Saibai Island and helped her love music.

She went to Emmaus College in Rockhampton and later studied dance in Sydney at the National Aboriginal and Islander Skills Development Association. Dancing was her first love before she found her voice in singing.

Christine Anu is a proud mother to a son named Kuiam and a daughter named Zipporah. Zipporah also shows musical talent, just like her mom. Christine’s family and her culture are very important to her, and she shares her gifts with the world through her music and performances.
