Djibouti City is the capital of the Republic of Djibouti. It is a busy city near the Gulf of Tadjoura by the sea. About 780,000 people live there, making it the biggest home for most people in the country.

The city began in 1888 when the French started it. They chose a spot by the water because it had a good harbor. Over time, many people from places like Yemen, Egypt, Greece, and Italy came to live there. Today, Djibouti City is very important for the country.

Djibouti City has a very dry climate. Summers are hot, and winters are warm with little rain. The city gets lots of sunshine, about eight to ten hours each day. Even though it is dry, there are green spaces like Lagarde Park where people can relax.

The city has many interesting places to see. The Théâtre des Salines is an open-air space shaped like an arena where people enjoy plays and concerts. The National Archives and Library hold important items from Djibouti’s history, like old coins and traditional art. The presidential palace overlooks the Gulf of Tadjoura and is close to the harbor and airport.

Djibouti City is also a center for trade. The port is very busy, connecting ships from Europe, the Far East, the Horn of Africa, and the Persian Gulf. The city has a big airport, Djibouti-Ambouli International Airport, with flights to many places around the world. There are also roads, buses, taxis, and minibuses to help people get around.

The city has people from many backgrounds. Most speak Somali or Afar at home, and the official languages are Arabic and French. Most people follow the Muslim faith, but there are also Christian places of worship.
