Dordogne
Dordogne is a beautiful and peaceful place in the southwest of France. It is part of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region and is named after the river Dordogne that flows through it.
The main city of Dordogne is Périgueux. The area is known for its calm countryside, old buildings, and pretty villages. Many people love to visit Dordogne to see its history and enjoy the natural beauty.
Dordogne has four special parts called Périgords. Each has its own charm:
- Périgord Vert (Green Périgord) has green valleys and rivers, with Nontron as its main town.
- Périgord Blanc (White Périgord) around Périgueux has limestone plateaus and wide valleys.
- Périgord Pourpre (Purple Périgord) with Bergerac is famous for its wine.
- Périgord Noir (Black Périgord) near Sarlat is named for its oak and pine forests.
People can enjoy fun activities like canoeing on the Dordogne River and exploring beautiful villages such as La Roque-Gageac and Cabanes du Breuil. The area also has many old castles and historic sites to discover.
