Queen Elizabeth I
Queen Elizabeth I was the queen of England and Ireland for many years, from 1558 until 1603. She was the last queen from the House of Tudor. Her time as queen is called the Elizabethan era.
Elizabeth was born in Greenwich Palace in 1533. Her father was the famous king Henry VIII of England. Her mother was Anne Boleyn. Elizabeth had a good education and learned many languages, including French, Latin, and Italian. She also learned to play musical instruments like the virginal (harpsichord) and lute.
When Elizabeth became queen at 25, she promised to work hard for her country. She became the leader of the Church of England. Elizabeth never married, so she was called the “Virgin Queen.” She was succeeded by her cousin, James VI of Scotland.
During Elizabeth’s time as queen, many great things happened in England. Famous writers like William Shakespeare lived then. Explorers like Francis Drake sailed to new places. Elizabeth’s careful leadership helped England become stronger and more famous around the world.
Elizabeth faced many challenges, but she always tried to do what was best for her country. She is remembered as one of England’s greatest queens. Her time as ruler brought many changes and growth for England.
