Portrait of Friedrich August von Alberti, a historical figure.

Friedrich August von Alberti was a clever German scientist who loved to study rocks and earth. He was born on September 4, 1795, and lived until 1878. Alberti grew up in two lovely towns, Stuttgart and Rottweil, in Germany.

Alberti discovered important facts about layers of rock, especially in Northern Europe. He found that three special rock layers were actually connected and called them the 'Trias.' These rocks help scientists learn about Earth long ago.

Besides rocks, Alberti also studied salt. He helped people find new places to get salt by looking closely at sandstone and limestone. He even made a smart new way to get salt from mines.

Because of his great work, people liked Alberti very much. After he passed away, a street and a school were named after him to remember his clever discoveries.
