Who Was Genghis Khan?

Genghis Khan was a very important leader from long ago. He was born as Temüjin around the year 1162 in Mongolia. His father was Yesugei, a leader of the Borjigin clan, and his mother was Hö'elün. Even though he had a hard time when he was young, he worked very hard and became a great leader.

Building a Big Empire

In 1206, Temüjin took the title "Genghis Khan." He brought many Mongol tribes together to form the big Mongol Empire. This empire grew to include parts of China and Central Asia. Genghis Khan made new trade routes, which helped people share ideas and goods from faraway places.

A Leader Remembered

Genghis Khan is remembered for making a very large empire and for helping different cultures connect. His grandson, Kublai Khan, started the Yuan dynasty in China. Even though he led many changes, Genghis Khan is also known for bringing people together and creating paths for trade that lasted for many years.
