The Greek Dark Ages

The Greek Dark Ages was a time when life in Ancient Greece changed a lot. It happened around 1180 to 800 BC. Many big cities and palaces from the Mycenaeans were left empty. This was a time when people lived in smaller villages and things were different from before.

During this time, people stopped using a special way of writing called the Linear B script. It would be many years before a new way of writing, the Greek alphabet, was created around 800 BC. This new alphabet helped people write stories and share ideas more easily.

Even though life was harder, new things began to grow. Places like Lefkandi on the island of Euboea became busy with ships and trade. People from Greece moved to places like Cyprus and mixed with local people.

The Greek Dark Ages was a time of change. After this period, important things like the first Olympics and famous stories like the Iliad and Odyssey began. This helped start what we call Classical Antiquity.
