Hanno the Navigator
Hanno the Navigator was a brave explorer from Carthage. He lived a long time ago, in the fifth century BC. Hanno is famous for sailing along the coast of West Africa in big ships. He wanted to find new places and make friends with different people.
We know about Hanno’s trip from a special book called a periplus. This book tells the story of his sea voyage. Some people think Hanno sailed as far south as Gabon. Others believe he only went to the southern coast of Morocco. Either way, his journey shows how people in ancient times loved to explore and discover new lands.
Hanno led many ships with lots of people on board. He met friendly tribes and saw amazing sights. Even though his story ends suddenly, it gives us a peek into old adventures on the sea. Today, there is a crater on the moon named Hanno to remember his amazing voyages.
