Harun al-Rashid
Harun al-Rashid was a kind and wise leader long ago. He ruled a big place called the Abbasid Caliphate from 786 to 809. His name means "the Just" because people thought he was fair and good.
Harun loved learning and made a special place called the Bayt al-Hikma or "House of Wisdom" in the busy city of Baghdad. This library helped people share ideas and learn new things. Baghdad is now in Iraq.
Harun was born in a place called Rey, which is today part of Tehran Province in Iran. His parents were very important. His mother helped guide the country, and his father was a leader before him.
People remember Harun because he was a good ruler who cared about his people. Stories about him appear in the famous book called One Thousand and One Nights. One fun story tells of gifts he sent to a king named Charlemagne from far away in the Frankish lands.
Harun al-Rashid is still remembered today for his love of learning and his fair rule.
