What is a Hospital?
A hospital is a special place where people go when they are sick or hurt. Here, kind workers like doctors and nurses help take care of everyone. Hospitals have many rooms and tools to help people feel better.
Hospitals can be big or small. The most common type is called a general hospital. This kind of hospital has an emergency department to help people who need help right away, like if they fall or get very sick suddenly.
Different Kinds of Hospitals
There are many types of hospitals! Some are just for kids, called children’s hospitals. Others, called teaching hospitals, help train new doctors and nurses while they care for patients. Some hospitals focus on one kind of help, like helping people learn to walk again after an illness. These are called rehabilitation hospitals.
Hospitals are places where people can stay overnight or just visit for a check-up. Some people leave the same day, called outpatients, while others stay, called inpatients.
A Place to Feel Better
Hospitals have many special rooms. There are rooms for operations, called operating rooms, and places where doctors watch over people very closely, called intensive care units. Hospitals also have pharmacies to give out medicines and labs to test samples.
Long ago, many hospitals were started by kind people or groups who wanted to help others. Today, hospitals are run by professionals, but some still have roots in groups that care for people in need.
Hospitals are important because they help people get better and stay healthy. They use the latest medical science to make sure everyone feels cared for.
