Ignatius of Loyola
Ignatius of Loyola was a special man from Spain. He grew up in a big family in a castle in a place called Azpeitia. As a young man, he loved stories about brave knights.
After an accident, Ignatius decided to spend his life helping others and learning about God. He studied very hard and later started a group called the Society of Jesus, or the Jesuits, with some friends. They wanted to teach and help people all over the world.
Ignatius wrote a book called the Spiritual Exercises to share his ideas about prayer and thinking deeply. Many people still use his book today. He is remembered as a kind and wise leader, and people celebrate his feast day on July 31. Schools and churches in many countries are named after him, like Loyola University Maryland in the United States.
