Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia

The Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia is a wonderful museum in Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia. It opened its doors on December 12, 1998, and is the biggest place in Southeast Asia to see beautiful items from the world of Islamic arts.

Inside the museum, you will find more than seven thousand special objects and artworks. These items come from many places where Islam is practiced. Visitors can learn about the designs, patterns, and stories behind these pieces. The museum helps everyone understand and appreciate the traditions and creativity of Islamic cultures.

The museum has twelve gallery spaces on two levels. On the first level, you can find galleries for Architecture, the Qur’an and other Manuscripts, and art from India, China, and the Malay Peninsula. The second level includes galleries for Arms & Armor, Textiles, Jewelry, and Coins, plus three galleries showing art made from Metal, Wood, and Ceramics. The museum is famous for its collection of ancient Islamic glassware.

The building itself is very special, too. It covers 30,000 square meters and has modern designs mixed with traditional Islamic styles. The blue-tiled domes look like colorful fabrics, making it a famous sight in Kuala Lumpur. The entrance looks like an iwan, decorated with special tiles made by artists from Iran.
