Jersey
Jersey is a beautiful island in the English Channel. It is just 14 miles from France and is the largest of the Channel Islands. The island is a special place called a British Crown Dependency, which means it has its own rules and leaders but is protected by the United Kingdom.
People have lived on Jersey for thousands of years! You can find old buildings and ruins from many different times. The island has a mild climate, with warm summers and cool winters. Snow is very rare, and the sea helps keep the weather nice all year.
Jersey is known for its strong finance industry, farms growing tasty Jersey Royal potatoes, and beautiful places to visit. The island uses the Pound sterling for money and has its own special banknotes and coins. English is the main language, but some people still speak Jèrriais, an old Norman-French language.
The island has twelve parishes, each with its own leader called a connétable. The largest parish is St Ouen, and the smallest is St Clement. Jersey is also home to special places to protect plants and animals, like the Jersey Zoo, where many kids love to visit and learn about wildlife.
Jersey holds fun events, like the Battle of Flowers carnival in August, where colorful floats and flowers fill the streets. The island enjoys traditional foods, such as seafood, black butter, and of course, delicious Jersey Royal potatoes. Sports are popular too, with many people watching and playing football and cricket.
