Jesse Owens

Jesse Owens was a wonderful American runner and jumper. He became very famous for his amazing races and jumps.

Jesse was born on September 12, 1913, in Oakville, Alabama. He was the youngest of ten children. When he was nine, his family moved to Cleveland, Ohio. There, he loved to run and started training for track and field when he was in school.

Owens is best known for the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin, Germany. He won four gold medals! He raced the 100 meters, 200 meters, jumped far in the long jump, and ran with his team in the 4 × 100-meter relay. He was the best athlete at the Games.

Even after the Olympics, Jesse Owens kept helping others. He spoke about the importance of exercise and fairness for everyone. Today, many places and awards are named after him, and he is remembered as one of the greatest athletes ever.
