What is the Jiangshanian?

The Jiangshanian is a very old time in Earth's history. It is part of the early Cambrian period, when many early animals first appeared. This special time helps scientists learn about how life began long ago.

Where Does the Name Come From?

The name Jiangshanian comes from a place called Jiangshan in Zhejiang, China. Scientists chose this name because they found important clues about this time near this city. These clues help us understand what Earth was like millions of years ago.

What Lived Then?

During the Jiangshanian, many interesting sea creatures lived. One of these was a small sea animal called a trilobite. Scientists found fossils of trilobites in many places, such as Kazakhstan, Guangxi, and even in the Wichita Mountains in the United States. These fossils help us know what kinds of animals were around during this time.
