An ancient printed book known as the Gutenberg Bible, one of the earliest major books ever printed using movable type.

Johannes Gutenberg

Johannes Gutenberg was a clever inventor from Mainz, a city in Germany. He lived a long time ago, between 1393 and 1406 until 1468. Gutenberg had a very important idea: he made the first printing press with movable type. This helped people make books much faster.

Before Gutenberg, books were copied by hand, which took a very long time. With his printing press, many copies of a book could be made quickly. Gutenberg used special oil-based ink and a wooden press, much like the presses farmers used. His most famous book was the Gutenberg Bible. This Bible was the first book printed with his new method, and it was very beautiful.

Because of Gutenberg’s invention, books could travel all around the world. This helped share ideas and change how people learned. Many think Gutenberg was one of the most important people ever because of what he did. Today, there is a Gutenberg Museum in Mainz to remember him. His work helped start big changes like the Renaissance and the Reformation.
