John Locke
John Locke was a clever man from England. He lived a long time ago, from 1632 to 1704. People remember him for his smart ideas about how countries should be run and how we should treat each other.
Locke grew up in a village called Wrington and later moved to Pensford. As a boy, he went to school in London and then to a big school called Christ Church in Oxford. There, he learned about many new ideas.
Locke believed that people should have the right to choose their leaders. His thoughts helped shape the way many countries think about freedom today. One of the people who used his ideas was Thomas Jefferson, who helped write the United States Declaration of Independence.
Locke also had interesting ideas about how we learn. He thought that when we are born, our minds are like blank slates. He believed that everything we know comes from what we see and hear. These ideas helped other smart people think in new ways.
Today, many people still read Locke’s books and think about his ideas. He loved books and had a big collection. Some of his books and notes are kept in a library in Oxford for everyone to learn from.
