A prince consort is a special title for the husband of a queen. When a woman rules a country, her husband is usually called a prince consort instead of a king. This is because many places think the title of king is too special for someone who is not the main ruler. Even though he is not the king, a prince consort helps a lot with the work of the royal family.

In the United Kingdom, the most famous prince consort was Prince Albert. He was the husband of Queen Victoria and got his title in 1857. Another well-known prince consort was Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, who was the husband of Elizabeth II.

Some other countries also have had prince consorts. In Denmark, Prince Henrik of Denmark was the husband of Margrethe II of Denmark. In Monaco, Jacques I, Prince of Monaco was the husband of the princess Louise Hippolyte.

The job of a prince consort is to support the queen. He does not become king, but he helps with many important tasks. This shows how important it is to help and support the ruler of a country.
