Lüneburg
Lüneburg is a lovely old town in Germany. It is found in the state of Lower Saxony, not too far from the big city of Hamburg. Lüneburg has a very long history, with people living there more than 1,300 years ago!
One big reason Lüneburg became important was its salt mines. Salt was very valuable long ago, and Lüneburg had lots of it. The town even joined a group of trading cities called the Hanseatic League, which helped it grow.
Today, Lüneburg is a lovely place to visit. It has old buildings, pretty rivers, and a university called Leuphana Universität Lüneburg. About 77,000 people live in Lüneburg, and many more live in the nearby areas.
Lüneburg is also known for its special friendships with cities in other countries. These cities are called "twin towns" or "sister cities." Lüneburg has friends with places like Scunthorpe in England, Naruto in Japan, and Clamart in France.
Some famous people were born in or lived in Lüneburg. For example, Johann Sebastian Bach, the great composer, went to school there. The town has many interesting stories and beautiful spots to explore!
