An Ancient Gold Place

Las Médulas is an old place where people found gold. It is near the town of Ponferrada in Spain. Long ago, the Romans came here and made it a very important gold mine.

People used water to wash away parts of the mountains and find the gold. They built long aqueducts to bring water from far away. Today, we can still see some of these old water channels.

Las Médulas is very special and is taken care of by UNESCO. In 1997, it became a World Heritage Site. This means it is important for showing us about the past. Many people visit to learn and see how the land was changed long ago.
