Limerick is a lovely city in western Ireland. It is found in County Limerick and is part of the province of Munster. The city sits on both sides of the River Shannon, with its old center on King's Island.
Limerick is a busy place with many people. In 2022, it was the third-most populous urban area in Ireland. The city has a long history, starting with Scandinavian settlers in 812 during the Viking Age. Today, Limerick is known for its culture, with many art galleries, theatres, and music events.
The city has many places to visit, like King John's Castle and St Mary's Cathedral. Limerick is also famous for its writers and poets, such as Frank McCourt, who wrote Angela's Ashes. Every year, the city holds a literary festival in his honor.
Limerick has many sports teams, too! Rugby, Gaelic football, and hurling are very popular. The Limerick county hurling team has won several championships. There are also golf clubs, rowing clubs, and more.
Limerick is twinned with several cities around the world, including A Coruña in Spain, Austin in the United States, and Quimper in France. This means friends and partnerships with these places.
