Magnus the Good

Magnus the Good was the first king of Norway with that name. He was also once the king of Denmark. Magnus was born around 1024 and became king of Norway when he was just 11 years old.

Magnus was the son of Saint Olaf. When Olaf lost the throne, Magnus and his family had to leave Norway. They traveled to a safe place called Kievan Rus'. There, Magnus grew up and learned to be strong and wise.

When the people of Norway asked him to be their king, Magnus returned and was crowned. Magnus tried to be a kind ruler and listened to wise advice. He became king of Denmark in 1042 after the other king passed away. Magnus ruled both countries until he passed away in 1047.

Magnus is remembered for being a noble and generous king. He is buried with his father in the cathedral in Trondheim. Even though he never married, Magnus had a daughter whose family later included kings of Norway and Denmark.
