Malé
Malé is the capital city of the Maldives. It is a very busy place, with many people living in a small area. The city is on a group of islands called the North Malé Atoll.
Old Names and Buildings
Long ago, Malé was called the King’s Island. It was an important place for leaders. Some old buildings, like the Malé Friday Mosque, are still there today.
Islands of Malé
The city of Malé includes several islands:
- Malé (Central Island)
- Hulhulé (Airport Island)
- Hulhumalé
- Villimalé
- Gulhifalhu
- Thilafushi
- Giraavarufalhu
The central island is very crowded, and many people from all over the Maldives live there. Some people also live on the other islands.
Weather and Seasons
Malé has a warm, tropical climate. The city has wet and dry seasons. It is usually around 30 °C during the day all year. The city gets a lot of rain, about 1,900 millimetres each year.
Malé is a special and important place for the Maldives. It has many stories from the past and beautiful buildings.
