Mars Rovers
Mars rovers are special, remote-controlled cars that explore the surface of Mars. They help scientists learn about our neighboring planet by moving around, looking at interesting spots, and studying rocks and soil. Unlike spacecraft that orbit Mars, rovers can get very close to the ground.
Several rovers have traveled on Mars. The first five were sent by NASA and include Sojourner, Spirit, Opportunity, Curiosity, and Perseverance. The sixth rover, Zhurong, was sent by the China National Space Administration. These rovers have helped us look for signs of old water and possible life on Mars.
Rovers carry special tools to study the planet. One tool helps identify rocks, while another takes pictures so the rover can see its surroundings. These tools help scientists learn about Mars and its materials. Today, Curiosity and Perseverance are still active, continuing to explore Mars and send back important information.
