Massachusetts Institute of Technology

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, or MIT, is a special school for learning in Cambridge, Massachusetts in the United States. It started in 1861 to help people learn useful things about science and making things work better.

A Place for Big Ideas

William Barton Rogers started MIT to help make life better using science. The school began with help from the government and focused on learning by doing, especially in applied science and engineering. Today, MIT is famous for its work in computer science, artificial intelligence, and many other important areas.

Campus Fun and Learning

MIT’s campus is next to the Charles River and has many cool buildings. Students can join lots of fun activities, like solving puzzles and playing tricks called elaborate pranks. The school helps students from families who don’t earn a lot of money by charging them very little or nothing for school.

Smart People and Big Awards

Many very smart people have been connected to MIT. The school has links with 105 winners of top prizes called Nobel laureates. MIT graduates have started famous companies and worked in important jobs all over the world. They have even helped make big discoveries about space and health!
