Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis is a wonderful change that helps animals grow up. Many animals, like insects, fish, and amphibians, go through this change. It lets them look and act very different when they are young compared to when they are older.

For example, a tiny caterpillar can change into a beautiful butterfly. First, the caterpillar becomes a resting stage called a pupa. Then, after a little time, it emerges as a butterfly with colorful wings! This big change helps the butterfly fly and find food in new ways.

Some animals, like frogs, also change a lot. Frog babies, called tadpoles, swim in water and have gills to breathe. As they grow, they develop legs, lungs, and a big mouth, and they leave the water to live on land. This change lets them hop and catch insects for food.

Metamorphosis is helped by special chemicals in the body, called hormones. These chemicals tell the animal when to change and what to change into. This amazing process lets animals live better in different parts of nature, from swimming in ponds to flying in the sky!
