Montevideo

Montevideo is the capital city of Uruguay. It is a big and busy place with about 1.3 million people living there. The city sits on the southern coast along the Río de la Plata, a wide river that connects to the Atlantic Ocean.

A City with History

Montevideo was first settled by people from Portugal in 1723. Later, the Spanish took over and helped the city grow. Today, Montevideo is known for its mix of old and new. You can see beautiful buildings with art deco designs, which are like fancy decorations from the past.

Things to See and Do

Montevideo has many places to explore! The city has lovely parks like Parque Batlle and Parque Rodó, where families like to spend time. There are also big, important buildings such as Palacio Salvo, which has a tall tower you can see from far away.

The city loves sports, too! Estadio Centenario is a famous football stadium where lots of exciting games happen. People also enjoy walking along the Rambla, a long path next to the water where you can see the ocean and beautiful sunsets.

Montevideo is a busy city with many jobs and schools. The University of the Republic is the biggest school here, with lots of students studying many subjects. The city also has hospitals, shops, and places to eat that make life comfortable for everyone.
