The Montgomery Bus Boycott
The Montgomery bus boycott was a peaceful protest that happened in Montgomery, Alabama. It began when a kind woman named Rosa Parks stood up for what was right. She refused to give up her seat on a bus, even though the rules at the time were unfair. Her brave act inspired many people in Montgomery to stop using the city buses for over a year.
During the boycott, people walked to work, school, and other places, or shared rides with friends. They showed that they could get by without the buses. A young pastor named Martin Luther King Jr. helped lead this peaceful protest. He taught that working together with kindness and patience could bring about change.
After more than a year, leaders in the country decided that the unfair bus rules were wrong. This victory was an important step in the fight for equal rights in the United States. It showed everyone that peaceful protests could make a big difference. Today, many remember the Montgomery bus boycott as a powerful example of standing up for what is right.
