Meet the Narwhal

Narwhals are special whales that live in the cold Arctic waters. They are known for their long, spiraled tusk, which looks like a unicorn horn. This tusk is actually a big tooth that grows from their heads. Scientists think it might help them feel changes in the water.

Narwhals live in places like Canada, Greenland, and Russia. They move to different areas during the year. In the summer, they stay near the coast, and in the winter, they go to deeper waters under the ice. Narwhals enjoy eating Arctic cod, shrimp, and sometimes squid.

These whales are friendly and often travel in small groups. They talk to each other using clicks and whistles. Narwhals are good divers and can go very deep to find food. There are about 170,000 narwhals today, and they are important to people who live in the Arctic, like the Inuit.

Narwhals have thick fat under their skin to stay warm in the icy water. They grow to be about 3 to 5.5 meters long. Females and males look similar, but only male narwhals usually grow a big tusk. These amazing whales have lived in the Arctic for thousands of years and are loved for their unique looks and gentle nature.
