Nuclear power plants are very safe. They have many ways to stay safe and make sure everything works right. These plants can make electricity for a long time without stopping. A Little History

The first time heat from a nuclear reactor was used to make electricity was in 1951. It powered just four light bulbs! Later, in 1954, the world’s first nuclear power station began operating in Obninsk, in the Soviet Union. Today, nuclear power plants make about 10% of the world’s electricity. Countries like France get a big part of their power from nuclear energy.

Nuclear power plants are important because they help fight climate change. They do not add carbon to the air when making electricity. In 2022, nuclear plants made a lot of electricity for people all over the world.

How It Works
