The Palace of Versailles is a very special old palace in a town called Versailles, just a little way from Paris, the capital of France. It was first built a long time ago in 1623 by a king named Louis XIII as a small place for hunting. Later, his son, Louis XIV, made it into a huge and beautiful palace.
In 1682, Louis XIV decided to make Versailles the main home for the French king and the place where important decisions were made. Kings lived there until 1789 when they went back to Paris during a big change in France.
Today, the Palace of Versailles is one of the most visited places in the world. In 1979, it was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO because it is very important for France’s history, art, and science.
The palace has many grand rooms and beautiful gardens. One of the most famous rooms is the Hall of Mirrors, which has lots of shiny mirrors and paintings on the ceiling. The gardens of Versailles were designed by a clever gardener named André Le Nôtre and have straight paths, colorful flowerbeds, and pretty ponds.
The Palace of Versailles is still used for important events today. Leaders from other countries are welcomed there, and sometimes the French Parliament meets there to talk about big decisions. It is a place full of history and beauty that people love to visit.
