Welcome to Petra
Petra is an amazing old city in southern Jordan. It is famous for its beautiful rock buildings and clever ways to use water. People often call it the "Rose City" because the pink sandstone used for its buildings looks like a rose. Petra is one of the New 7 Wonders of the World and a very special UNESCO World Heritage Site.
A Long History
People have lived near Petra since a very long time ago, around 7000 BC. But it became really important when the Nabataeans, a group of Arab people, made it their capital in the 4th century BC. They were very good at farming, carving stone, and catching rainwater, which helped them live in the desert.
Amazing Buildings
Petra has many wonderful buildings carved right into the rock. One of the most famous is the Al-Khazneh, also called the Treasury. It is big and beautiful, made from the same pink sandstone that gives Petra its nickname. There is also a big theatre and a garden with a pool. All these buildings show how clever and creative the Nabataeans were.
A Special Place
Petra is not just old stones; it is a place full of history and stories. Many people visit Petra to see its amazing sights and learn about the past. Today, Petra is one of Jordan’s most popular places for tourists. Hardworking people take good care of Petra to make sure its beauty and history stay for everyone to enjoy.
