An Old Town Called Pyrgi

Pyrgi was an ancient town and port in Latium, central Italy. It was near a bigger Etruscan city called Caere. Today, Pyrgi is part of a place named Santa Severa.

People have been digging at Pyrgi since 1957 and found many interesting things. They found beautiful statues made of clay and special golden pieces called the Pyrgi Tablets. These tablets have writings in two old languages, Phoenician and Etruscan.

Pyrgi had special places for worshipping gods and goddesses. One temple was for the goddess Uni, who is also called Astarte. Pyrgi was an important place for ships traveling along the sea and was liked by rich people for summer visits.
