Rainbow
A rainbow is a beautiful sight in the sky. It looks like a colorful arc. You can see rainbows when the sun shines and there are water drops in the air, like after rain or near a waterfall.
Rainbows show seven colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. Sometimes you can see a second, fainter rainbow outside the first one. The colors in the second rainbow are in the opposite order.
Rainbows appear when sunlight shines from behind you at a low angle. This is why you usually see them in the west in the morning and in the east in the early evening. The best rainbows happen when part of the sky is still dark with clouds and you are in a spot where the sky is clear toward the sun.
People have loved rainbows for a long time. In many stories, rainbows are special symbols. In some cultures, a rainbow bridge links the world of people with the world of the gods. Rainbows are also used in flags and symbols to show peace and unity.
You can see rainbows in many places, not just after rain. Sometimes, you might see a moonbow on a very bright moonlit night. From an airplane, you might see a rainbow as a full circle. Rainbows remind us of the lovely way light and water work together in nature.
