Reading Abbey

Reading Abbey is a very old, special place in the town of Reading, in Berkshire, England. It was started a long time ago in 1121 by a king named Henry I.

People can visit the old parts of the abbey today. These old walls and stones tell stories about the past. Near the abbey, there is a beautiful church called St James's Church where people still hold special services.

The abbey is very important to the town. It was a place where kings and important people visited long ago. Today, visitors can see the old stones and learn about history. There is also a museum nearby called the Reading Museum where they keep many old treasures.

Next to the abbey, there is a big garden and a special building called the Abbey Gateway. Long ago, famous writer Jane Austen went to school here!

The ruins of Reading Abbey are cared for very well. In 2018, after lots of hard work, the place was made safe and beautiful again so everyone can enjoy it. It is a lovely place to visit and imagine life from many years ago.
