Recognition of same-sex unions in the Czech Republic
The Czech Republic is a country in Europe where people care about fairness for everyone. Since 2006, same-sex couples can have their relationships officially recognized through something called registered partnerships. This means couples share many of the same rights as married couples, like inheritance and visiting each other in the hospital.
In 2025, the Czech Republic made a new law to give registered partners almost all the same rights as married couples. This includes sharing property and tax benefits. One partner can also adopt a child who is already related to the other partner.
Many people in the Czech Republic support laws that recognize same-sex relationships. This shows that many believe in treating everyone fairly, no matter who they love.
Some famous people from the Czech Republic, like tennis player Martina Navratilova and singers Bára Basiková and Dara Rolins, have spoken in favor of allowing same-sex marriages. Most Czechs think allowing same-sex marriages would not change their own lives much.
The city of Prague has had many registered partnerships. People from other countries, like the United States, Slovakia, and the United Kingdom, have also chosen to have their partnerships there.
Over time, more rights have been added to registered partnerships, making sure same-sex couples feel included and respected in the Czech Republic.
