How New Living Things Are Made
All living things, like plants and animals, start from tiny pieces from their parents. This is called reproduction. It is how new babies grow and become new organisms.
There are two main ways this happens. One way is called asexual reproduction. This is when one parent makes a new baby all by itself. For example, some yeast can grow tiny parts that break off and grow into new yeast. Many bacteria also split into two parts to make new ones. Some plants can grow new pieces on their leaves or roots that become new plants.
The other way is called sexual reproduction. This usually needs two parents. Each parent gives a tiny piece to the new baby. These tiny pieces join together to make a new living thing. This new baby has traits from both parents. Many birds, reptiles, and mammals reproduce this way. Even many plants use this method, with flowers mixing their powder in special ways.
Scientists study how all living things make new babies. They learn that some animals have only a few babies but help them grow. Others have many babies and do not help each one as much. Both ways work well for different kinds of animals. This amazing process helps life continue and grow in many different places.
