Robinson College, Cambridge
Robinson College is one of the colleges that make up the University of Cambridge. It is one of the newest colleges, created in 1977. Unlike older colleges, Robinson was built to welcome both new students and those with more advanced learning. It was also planned to include both men and women from the start.
The college was made possible thanks to a generous gift from a kind businessman named Sir David Robinson. In 1981, the college was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II, and students of all ages could begin their learning there.
Robinson College is known for being a bit less formal than other colleges in Cambridge. It has special dinners and a chapel with beautiful stained-glass windows. Students can walk on the grass in the college gardens, which is not allowed at every college.
The college's buildings were designed by Andy MacMillan and Isi Metzstein. They are special because they use handmade red bricks. The college is set on a 12.5-acre wooded area with gardens that date back to Victorian and Edwardian times. There is also a small stream running through the grounds.
Students at Robinson College have many places to relax and enjoy themselves. There is a TV room, an art room, and a cafรฉ. The college also has two big rooms for movies or performances, a special room for parties and music practice, a music room, and a chapel. There are also many sports teams, including hockey, rowing, and rugby.
