Roman Syria

Roman Syria was a special place far away in Asia. It became part of the Roman Republic a long time ago, in 64 BCE. A Roman leader named Pompey the Great helped change the area.

The land had many beautiful cities. One of the most famous was Palmyra. It was a busy trading place where people from different places met. Palmyra had big stone buildings and theaters for shows.

Later, the land was split into two parts: Coele Syria and Syria Phoenice. Antioch became an important city in Coele Syria. People there liked to learn and trade with others.

Roman Syria was close to many other lands, like Parthia. The Romans kept watch with their army to stay safe. The area was also near special places like Judea and Samaria.

Many different people lived in Roman Syria. Some spoke Aramaic, while others spoke Phoenician or Greek. Even though they were from many places, they all lived together in this busy, interesting land.
