São Tomé and Príncipe
São Tomé and Príncipe is a tiny island country in the Gulf of Guinea, close to Central Africa. It has two main islands: São Tomé and Príncipe. The islands are warm and wet, with lots of rain between October and May. They are home to special plants and animals, including unique birds and turtles.
People in São Tomé and Príncipe enjoy a mix of African and European traditions. Most speak Portuguese, and many also use local creole languages. The islands have beautiful beaches and tall mountains, like Pico Cão Grande, a famous needle-shaped peak.
The country is known for growing cocoa, which is very important to its economy. São Tomé and Príncipe was once called the "Chocolate Islands" because of its rich cocoa farms. Today, tourism is growing, with people visiting for the lovely beaches and nature.
Football (soccer) is the most popular sport. Children often play in small fields, and the São Tomé and Príncipe national football team represents the islands in international games.
Life on the islands is calm and friendly. Schools teach children to read and write, and many families enjoy fishing and farming. The culture includes music, dance, and stories that blend African and Portuguese styles, making São Tomé and Príncipe a special place to live and visit.
