Same-sex marriage in Cuba

Cuba is a beautiful island country in the Caribbean. In September 2022, Cuba made a big change. The country decided that people who love each other could get married, no matter if they were both men or both women. This made Cuba the first place in the Caribbean to allow this.

Before 2022, the rules in Cuba said marriage was only for a man and a woman. But many people wanted to change this. In 2019, leaders started talking about new rules. They asked people for their thoughts. After lots of talking and voting, the new rules were approved.

Mariela Castro, a special helper to the leader of Cuba, worked hard to support equal rights for everyone. She helped start talks about changing the rules. In 2022, people voted again, and most said yes to letting same-sex couples marry.

Now, couples who love each other can get married and start their families together. This brought happiness to many people in Cuba and around the world. It shows that love is important for everyone, no matter who they are.
