Samye Monastery is a very special and old place for people who follow Tibetan Buddhism. It is the first monastery in Tibet and was built a long time ago.

The monastery was built when a kind king named Trisong Deutsen ruled. A wise teacher named Shantarakshita started building it in the year 763. Later, another teacher named Padmasambhava helped finish it.

Samye Monastery is found in the beautiful Chimpu valley, south of the city of Lhasa. It is close to a mountain and the Yarlung Valley. Today, it is in a place called Gra Nang or Drananga in Lhokha.

The monastery looks like a special circle called a mandala, which shows the Buddhist universe. It has a big main shrine and four colorful stupas around it. Many people visit Samye because it is very important and beautiful.
