Santa Catarina (state)
Santa Catarina is one of the 27 states in Brazil. It is in the Southern part of the country. It is next to Paraná to the north, Rio Grande do Sul to the south, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, and the Argentine province of Misiones to the west.
About 7.6 million people live in Santa Catarina. The capital city is Florianópolis, and the biggest city is Joinville. The state is famous for its beautiful views, with hills and cool weather in some places.
Santa Catarina is one of Brazil’s oldest states. It became separate from São Paulo in 1738. Many people from Portugal, Italy, Germany, and other places came to live there. Today, it is known for good living conditions and safety.
Santa Catarina has many lovely places to visit. You can enjoy beaches, nature walks, and fun adventures. In October, Blumenau hosts a big party called Oktoberfest. Florianópolis is popular in summer for its many beaches. The state also has tall waterfalls and cool mountain spots.
Santa Catarina is great for sports too. It has produced famous tennis and swimming stars. The state is also well known for surfing, with Campeche Beach near Florianópolis being a favorite spot.
